Psychological Horror Stories Continue With Wedding Day

Psychological horror stories

Now that you’ve met the man at the center of my Joker Joker Deuce psychological horror stories, let’s dive into a short picture of his past to see how he ended up this way. What his mother wanted wasn’t exactly what she got, and little Jeph noticed.

A wedding day should be something a family remembers with smiles. For eight-year-old Jeph, the memories come with the smell of charcoal, beer, and freshly cut grass. His mother is getting married, a stranger is already calling himself “Dad,” and nobody seems particularly interested in what the boy thinks about any of it.

Part III of my Joker Joker Deuce Halloween Series, “Wedding Day,” takes us back to a memory Jeph cannot leave alone. Before the delivery routes, the dating site, and the private conversations at his desk, there was a little boy watching his world change. His mother had always been the person beside him, but now he has to figure out where he belongs in the family she is trying to build.

She gets dressed for the occasion with a happiness Jeph can see, even if he cannot understand it. A quick courthouse ceremony makes the marriage official, and then they head to a barbecue that happens to be taking place that day. There is no grand reception waiting for them, just lawn chairs, food, beer, and a yard full of adults.

Among those adults is Stone, a man who manages to make Jeph feel welcome. He gets the boy’s name wrong at first, but he also takes the time to talk to him. In a place where Jeph has nobody his own age to play with, a little attention and a football give him something to enjoy.

Those moments matter because Jeph is watching more than the adults realize. He notices how his mother smiles, how her new husband talks to her, and how the people around them react. He cannot put a name to everything he sees, but he can feel when something is wrong.

That is where “Wedding Day” finds its tension. Anyone looking for psychological horror stories might expect the danger to arrive with a scream, a shadow, or a stranger at the door. Here, the discomfort settles into a family gathering while everyone keeps eating, drinking, and carrying on.

I wanted this part of the series to give viewers time with the child Jeph once was. His memories reveal the small kindnesses he holds onto and the moments that hurt more than anyone seems to notice. Watching him try to understand the adults around him brings us closer to a past that still occupies his thoughts.

These psychological horror stories are based on the novel, Joker Joker Deuce! These are not the same stories you’ll find in the book. This is the prequel to who Jeph actually becomes when he hits full stride and starts learning more about himself than anyone wants to know…

Happy Halloween!
