Emily Mae Young was such a natural in front of the camera. She did interviews with Jay Leno and Dave Letterman that just melted everyone’s heart. She knew what she was doing and that’s rare for a child of her age, which was about six at the time.

Her Welch’s Grape Juice commercial was cute enough. She talks about the juice and how good it is. She takes a drink and enjoys it. It’s all believable, which is easy because Welch’s is good. There’s no denying that. It hardly needs a spokesperson. But Emily was the perfect one.

The funny thing is that her bloopers reel is pure gold. Why it was never actually made into a commercial by itself is a mystery. If they only knew what they had, this was a commercial ready to go but instead it went in a can to collect dust.

Let that be a lesson to all the advertising agents and marketing directors who are coming up in the world. Look at some of the old stuff before you get started creating new ones. You just might find a pot of gold in the pile of footage that’s collecting dust on shelves in storage rooms.

What is Emily Mae Young doing now? Do you believe she dropped out of acting after starring in 35 episodes of Step by Step from 1997 to 1998 and having roles in Undercover Angel (1999) and Santa and Pete (1999)? Other than that, there is very little known about her after she quit acting.

By the way, this is how that commercial turned out. Enjoy!
