It should have been a great night for Will Smith. But it ended in tears as he apologized for his actions. He let his real self get in front of his professional actor self. And sometimes, that has to happen.
I think that humor should have boundaries. I know that comedians push those limits all the time. But there are consequences and sometimes, comedians don’t think they have to deal with those despite what they say on stage.
To be honest, I can’t say that about Chris Rock though. He was the one telling the jokes about Jada Pinkett Smith and Will Smith snapped. Chris Rock took it in stride and didn’t let what happened throw him off his game. Also from what I’ve heard, he’s not pressing charges either. He’s just going to let it ride.
Now, I don’t know what’s going on in Will Smith’s life. Maybe he’s just had enough or maybe he’s come off of a hard movie to make, playing the role of Richard Williams in King Richard, the father of Serena and Venus Williams. Method actors take their work home with them sometimes and even though King Richard came out last year, Will could have been having flashbacks. Who knows?
I know this, Chris Rock will probably never say another word about Jada Pinkett Smith and I’m not sure how she feels about that. She’s a strong, independent woman who can take care of herself. She probably didn’t like the fact that Will used his hands instead of his mind.
But don’t we all deserve to have a moment every once in a while? I do, and I’m pretty sure about this too. Jada and Will Smith are ride or die. So if you want to talk about her, expect Will to come smack you upside your head.
