She thought it would be easy. After all, she had been writing checks all over town and that’s the way business was done. Once the money clears her account, the checks are all good.
People don’t have to know that the money isn’t in there when she wrote them. Just that it’s there by the time the people present her checks to the bank. And the money would be there by that time. She was guaranteed.
But, it had been a while and Ms. Laraday only needed a little more time. That’s when she had the bright idea that she could just write a check and that would cover all her other checks. That check would buy her more time until her money finally came rolling in.
It was a great idea. It was! In her mind it was. So, off she went. But, that’s not the way it turned out. She learned very quickly that her idea had a huge hole in it.
“Ma’am, this check is no good,” the clerk said as she shook her head and held the check up in the air.
“How do you know that,” Ms. Laraday asked with a strange look on her face.
The clerk shook her head and looked Ms. Laraday straight in the eye with concern, “Because we’re your bank.”
